We hope our online museum of Indonesian Batiks entices you as much as it has inspired the collections of White Rice over the years. We began collecting late 19th century batik
through mid century 20th century pieces years ago, and
continue to seek the best examples of certain decades of
work. This collection is represented by both "sarong" and
"kain" (material in lengths) samples, as well as an occasional
scarf. Our focus is primarily on the Euro & China influenced
North Coast of Java, where colorful, floral and nature Ğdriven themes are predominant. We do also collect the royal court- inspired work of Central Java, including pieces created in the cities of Jogjakarta and Solo. Most of the Batik
samples in our museum are set on woven cotton; but we
also have a few early samples of "sutra" or silk. Generally
only very fine-woven cotton (much of it imported from
Holland in colonial-Indo times) or much more delicate cotton
were used in the production of fine Batik. More
