White Rice was born when husband and wife team Mary Vaughn Williams and Rudy Huston set off for Asia
with their belongings on their backs. Six months in India set the stage for what was to come. Enamored
with the vibrant textiles they encountered in the jungles of southeast Asia, Mary Vaughn and Rudy laid the
foundation for their life’s work when they finally discovered magnificent, sultry Bali. There the young couple
fell in love with the indigenous process of wax-resist batik. It was their idea to create clothing from these
beautiful fabrics that would make the woman who wears it feel as unique and lovely as the fabric itself.
